He's a great guy and a good friend even though he looks like Gritty on acid...

Great career buddy!

Hartnell goes to penalty box, I am sitting right next to it. I watch as fans heckle him, and he gives it back. He gets all crazy eyed.
As part of it, he sticks his glove on the end of his stick, bends the fingers so only the middle one is up. Of course, cameras come out, so he takes it down.

A few seconds later, he looks over and we look at each other. I (in my Blues gear), give him a nod. He nods back and smiles. Just having fun. I love that interaction!

Everytime I watched Crosby and the Pens eliminate his teams from the post season, after he acted like an asshat for 5-7 games.

Penguins won 2 series, Philly won one. And Hartnell had the last laugh, more than once in big games vs. Pens.

he is a goofball with the big heart and very likeable personality. One of the pen's fans had a Fartsmell flyers jersey on him. Harts lightened things up by autographing it.
Could you imagine Crosby signing a Crybaby jersey?

Pens won 1 Cup, not multiple ones, during the period when Hartnell was in Philly.

The teams played each other 3 times in the playoffs. The Pens won the 2008 ECF series handily and probably would have won anyway even if both halves of the Flyers top D pairing hadn't been injured. The 2009 series was a much harder-fought one, but the Pens (who eventually won the Cup) were the better team and the deserving winner in 6.

In 2010, the Flyers went to the Cup Finals, losing in six. The Penguins lost to Montreal in Rd 2 and then the Flyers easily dismantled the Habs in the Conference Final (five games, three wins by shutout).

In 2011, the Penguins went out in the first round. Flyers made it to round 2.

In 2012, the Pens were the odds-on favorite to win the Cup entering the playoffs. The Flyers took them out in 6.

In 2013, Flyers missed the playoffs (Hartnell missed much of the season due to injury). Pens got to the ECF.

In 2014, Flyers went out in Rd 1. Pens went out in Rd. 2.

So, yes, Pens had more success overall in those years but there were also times that the Flyers in general and Hartnell in particular got the better of head-to-head/ went further than the Pens.

We will agree to disagree on definition of last laugh.

Dixie,

Not sure you should be debating Flyers history with Meltz. He's only helped write a book or two on it and aided in officially archiving important dates for the franchise. His flyer fandom is also tempered by a healthy dose of objectivity. I'm inclined to take his side on this.

Why is such a stupid argument going on..... Who got the last laugh? No one because none of these players gave each other a thought about each other after the game. They are hockey players! They show up and play, things get heated and chirping is done and then everyone moves on. Hartnell never gave a poop about Crosby and Crosby never gave a poop about Hartnell

Would've loved him in Boston back in the day. Congrats on your career Hartnell.
